I cannot wait until I get my new lightspeed zulu headset. I ordered it on line a few days ago and am waiting for it to arrive today. I have been promising myself a new one for ages and at last I have managed to get hold of one. It is so exciting! I suppose my original headset is fine really but I have heard so many good things about lightspeed aviation lately, that I decided it was about time I tried one out for myself. I have also been able to put my old one by as a spare. I often read about the lightspeed zulu products and they always seem to get really good reviews and so I think it is about time I found out whether the reviewers were right or not. I have not really been able to justify buying one before because my current headset still works, but I was really lucky and won a small amount of money on the lotto and decided that it was a sign that I should indulge and so I have done! I just wish that it would hurry up and be delivered so that I can have a go with it and find out what it is really like.

PC Diagnostics
Tuesday, July 7th, 2009I have been responsible for looking after the computers in the office for a while now and have decided that rather than just repairing them when faults occur, that I should run some PC diagnostics on them every so often, just to make sure that everything is okay. I have been trying to get the funding for this for a while now, the company is only small and so it is not easy for them to finance anything really.
With the economic situation, we, as employees, are trying not to push things either as we realise that if they spend money unnecessarily then we may end up causing the company to fall into trouble and if they go under we will all lose our jobs. I have looked into protech diagnostics as well and I have decided that it is probably better money wise, at this stage at least, to continue with what we are doing. I might try to do some checks on the computers myself if I get a chance but that will be about it now. When there is more money available, I will look into it again and hopefully find a good solution for us.
Self-Paced IT Training Courses
Friday, July 3rd, 2009I am all for doing self-paced IT training courses and having done one at home, for myself, in order to improve myself, I am thinking of recommending that my company start to do them as well. I loved the fact that I could work through the course material whenever I wanted to and at the speed that I needed. I could very briefly look at the material that I already knew or that I found easy and spend time working through the new material that perhaps was more difficult.
I used the IT training videos a lot and watched them several times and the replayed the parts which I needed to remember. I found it great and completed the course pretty quickly because it was set up in such a way that it made me look forward to the next time I had the opportunity to study some more. I am sure this would be a great way that my company could address the training needs of the staff without breaking the bank. I know that many peoples skills need updating but most departments cannot justify the cost of sending team members away on training courses and so these could be the answer.
Microsoft online training
Monday, March 30th, 2009My friend has been going on about this new computer training online project that she is trying to get involved with at work. She said that some of the employees are testing the on line courses rather than going away on training courses. My friend is always being sent away on courses but she wants to stay in the office as much as she can because she can get back home to her young family more easily.
She is keen to try these on line courses and work on them at home once the children are in bed or during office time when she can. The course they are trailing at the moment is Excel 2007 training online and unfortunately she has already been trained to an advanced level in this area so she will not get to be part of the try out team. She was really hoping that she would be so that she could make sure that she put forward as many positives about it as she could. I am sure that she will get a chance as I expect that they will be doing more Microsoft online training and she will be bound to do some more of those courses soon as she seems to be doing them all of the time at the moment!

Nintendo Cuts Profit Forecast as Sony, Toshiba Stumble
Friday, January 30th, 2009A mix of strong currency in Japan along with a decrease in sales of TVs, digital cameras and other consumer technology devices has left three Japanese industry giants with earnings headaches. Sony, Nintendo and Toshiba all reported poor earnings for their third fiscal quarters.
Sony, which in recent months has had to close some plants, cut thousands of jobs, and decrease investment, reported a 94.8 percent drop in profits for the quarter. Its game-segment sales fell 32.2 percent from the same quarter a year ago.
Sony on Thursday also announced that it will postpone a previously announced joint venture with Sharp to produce and sell large LCD panels and modules until March 2010, a year later than originally scheduled.
A Surprise Forecast
Nintendo’s fall wasn’t as hard, but the maker of Wii video-game consoles reported earnings fell 18 percent in the nine months through December.
While Sony has made it clear it’s struggling because of the recession and a strong yen, Nintendo surprised analysts by lowering its profit forecast for its fiscal year a second time. Nintendo has had rock-solid sales for both its Wii gaming console and DS handheld device, but downgraded its full-year profit forecast by 33 percent to 230 billion yen (US$2.6 billion.
As of Dec. 31, Wii sales worldwide were 44.96 million units, a 10 million increase from October. In December alone, 2.15 million Wiis were sold, according to NPD Group. Since Nintendo launched its DS portable gaming device in November 2004, it has sold 96.22 million units. In December, Nintendo sold 3.04 million DS units in the US.
Still, expected foreign-exchange losses of 200 billion yen (US$2.2. billion) for the fiscal year are to blame for the downgrade, the company said.
NEC Electronics, the supplier of chips for Nintendo’s Wii gaming consoles, also had forecast an annual operating gain, but instead had a $180 million operating loss for the quarter and expects losses to grow to $611 million by March 30.
More Losses
Toshiba, based in Tokyo, also tanked in the third quarter and expects a loss for the full year. Toshiba reported a net loss of 121 billion yen (US$1.35 billion)for the October-December quarter, dropping from an 80.5 billion yen (US$897 million) net profit in the same period of 2007. The company blamed a decrease in demand for its flash memory chips used in digital cameras and music players.
The plan, according to Toshiba, is to cut 4,500 temporary and contract jobs, do away with overtime, and cancel investments, which include new chip plants and research and development.
