Best place to sell hangar & partially built aircraft?

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Recently inherited property including 1 bedroom cabin and large hangar on airstrip in N. GA. Where is the best place to advertise this for sale?

Also, 4 homebuilt/experimental aircraft in various stages of construction/restoration, none air worthy, and tools of the trade including items for old style fabric & dope coverings.

We plan to use Trade-a-plane and Barnstormers. Anything else we should try?

Oh wow, Craig’s list. I work for a company that cleans and services aircraft, and this web site has helped us purchase and sell equipment. Plus you get a wider market, nothing against Trade-A-Plane and Barnstormers, but you get a smaller “view” (usually A/C owners)

………………

As far as the property there are real-estate brokers that specialize in airport homes google it and you will see links to dozens of them. As for the aircraft parts Trade A Plane is probably your best bet

……….

You might want to try the magazines too …the classifieds for magazines like Private Pilot or Kitplanes.

Buying a used motorcycle during winter. Huge price drop?

I want to wait till winter to buy a motorcycle. Can I expect to get a deal that would sound unrealistic during summer? For example, will I be able to get a new-looking 2004-2005 Yamaha R6/R1 or Kawasaki ninja zx6r/ ninja 650r for about $2000?

As soon as the temperature drops in around October, you should be able to name your price from all the fair weather kids unloading their summer machines. But don’t expect much from the dealers

…………

Many motorcycle shops close during the winter.

but if you go JUST BEFORE (like 1 week before) they close, you can get a good deal. I’ve done this twice.

How good of a deal depends on how good you are at negotiating. But the won’t take a loss

Can too much transmission oil cause clutch failure?

Monday, July 7th, 2008

I have a 2005 GMC Envoy with full GMC service history, which has done 46000km. It had trouble shifting gears so I checked the A/T fluid and it was way overfilled. I took it to the dealer and they said it was out of warranty and it needed a new clutch! I pointed out the overfilling and they said this couldn’t cause this.

Any answers greatly appreciated.

allright. dont listen to those last couple guys. they are retards. the first guy is correct. your clutches.. (multiple in an auto) would be bad due to lack of lubrication. You should have a 4l60E in it if im not mistaken. Not sure how long they used it for. I use an older style of this in my race car. the 700r4. To much fluid would cause a seal to blow out maybe but not the clutches. If your going to have it rebuilt. Make sure they replace your sun gear and housing for it being those in these paticular transmissions have a habit of cracking. and to the guy saying dont put auto. tranny fluid in a manual. try looking up some borg warner t-5 transmissions used in GM vehicles you will be surprised to find half take gear oil and about the other half. the style that seems to hold up better actually takes dexron. auto tranny fluid can be used in a variety of different areas as a lubrication. BMW uses it as their lubricant for their powersteering fluid. Not dexron of course. but yeah. sounds like you may want to look into an overhaul for sure. and as the guy above mentioned about offroading, or towing, this is a more of a severe duty and puts more wear and tear on your transmission. you would need to flush more frequently than 30K if you do these things. probaly more like 15K. check your owners manual if you have one. look under the schedule for fleet vehicles or harsh driving conditions. If you do alot of towing one of these would put you close to the service intervals you need to look close too.

………………

Ok I’m not totally sure whats going on… Because you do not put A/T fluid in a truck that has a clutch. A clutch is in a vehicle with a manual trans mission…. If you have an automatic transmission then overfilling it will cause the transmission to slip.
And if you have an automatic transmission and they told you you need to have your clutch replaced then they are taking you for a ride….
If you have a manual transmission and they put Automatic transmission fluid in it then they are at fault and should pay for the screw up and make it right. Overfilling a manual trans mission usually won’t cause the clutch to slip for 2 reasons…. You can’t over fill a manual transmission because of the way the fill hole is designed. The fluid goes in a plug on the side of the transmission. you just fill it till it starts leaking out of the fill hole and put the plug back in… So???? What kind of transmission do you really have?
And a manual trans mission takes gear oil!!!
usually 75w90. Not ATF or (automatic transmission fluid) So what really happened?

They are correct.

Too much tranny oil cause excess pressure. That leads to blown tranny seal.

But bad clutch is due to failed lubrication. You are suppose to get a tranny oil every 30K miles. Most tranny easily survive 60K (or even 90k) - but that is still risking damage.

Where you doing lot of trailer pulling - or off road driving?

…………….
Not too sure with A/T’s but I wouldn’t think that too much fluid could cause the clutches in the A/T to burn out. Cause a seal to blow out due to excessive pressure…. maybe.
…………..
No, a viechle with an auto tranny does not have a clutch.
only standard shift viechles have clutches. you got hosed buddy.
