Trail cameras – Becoming popular

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Trail cameras are now very popular among hunters and wild life photographers. Most of them have understood the importance of using trail cameras and the quality of pictures that they get in these cameras. Trail cameras were once only 35mm film cameras but they are available in 6 mega pixel cameras with digital infrared units. The clarity of the photos is really amazing and welcomed by the users. Reaching animals close enough and taking pictures may not be possible in all the cases or other options would be cameras with telescopic lens which can super-zoom the objects at very far distance, but this camera is going to be bulky and heavy to carry and walk around in a forest. Earlier, non coupled rangefinder cameras can display the distance of the object or the focus but requires the photographer to modify the value to the lens focus ring.

Some Cameras might have built in digital rangefinders and some may not. If the camera doesn’t have a range finder then it usually fitted t the accessory shoe of the camera. Predator calls is usually available on stores or you can just records some noises on the first visits and use them in the following visits.

3G: The Untold Story and What it means to a Mobile User

Monday, December 29th, 2008

is a big day. Third generation or 3G mobile networks are finally here, for MTNL users in parts of Delhi and NCR. Mumbai will follow as soon as the pilots in Delhi are successful.

India has been making do with ancient mobile technology for long now. The current Second generation or 2G networks were designed to carry only voice, which does not require high data transfer speeds. With the advent of new technologies — video streaming, mobile TV and mobile gaming, higher transfer speeds were necessary.

State-owned MTNL and BSNL have a head start over private players when it comes to 3G. As MTNL and BSNL get ready, most private players will be in a position to offer 3G services only towards the end of second quarter of 2009. MTNL is already tying up with service providers to enable different 3G services.

If you’ve ever used data on our standard networks before, you’ll be well aware of the real-world download speed of about 5kbps on a good signal strength and low GSM traffic. That is barely enough to check email, surf a few websites and download a few small files.

With 3G speeds, however, the story is different.

Data transfer speeds in a 3G network are much faster. Simply put, compared to existing networks, you’ll get about ten times higher speeds while surfing the internet on your mobile phone. This opens the door to a richer mobile internet experience - like you have on a broadband connected PC at home. But remember the speed can also vary depending on whether the device is stationary, moving slowly (like a person walking with a phone) or moving fast (like in a moving vehicle).

So what do you need to enjoy 3G?

Well, firstly, you need a 3G-enabled mobile phone. There are many in the market, starting from as low as Rs.8,000 (like the Nokia N70). Most new phones in the market are already 3G-ready. Then you need a 3G subscription from a mobile service provider. Once started, you will get access to bandwidth intensive applications and services that were until now only available for fixed line broadband internet connections. Video conferencing with other 3G users, live TV services, broadband internet (on mobile and for laptops) while on the move, real-time multiplayer gaming on mobile phones and video messaging are just some of the services that can be offered.

For rural India, there is another, bigger reason to celebrate. 3G technology especially heralds benefits to rural or hard-to-reach areas. This can increase broadband internet penetration without the need for expensive cabling.

Downsides? Service providers have spent a lot on buying and setting up the infrastructure. Plus for 3G, the cell towers need to be closer to each other, needing more to cover a city. So all the early adopters will be paying a high premium to use the services and even after that, it’s not going to be cheap. Final rates depend on the operator of course, and call rates should remain roughly the same. Analysts suggest that data plans will start at Rs.599 (limited data) and go up to Rs.2,000 for unlimited data plans.

The office furniture today comes in many styles to fit your budget, décor and space in the room. While buying your furniture like office chairs, cabinets, computer desks, you should keep the comfort of the body and storage in mind.

Not only your office chairs, but also your computer desks should be properly designed ergonomically to provide you maximum comfort as you will be working for long hours. Ergonomically designed computer desks give a good posture and prevent body from any aches and pains in neck and back. There are mobile computer desks also which are portable and good for small offices. You can get very compact computer desks also. You can have an L shaped desk to create a separate unit. Corner computer desks can save a lot of space.

Whatever is the design of the desk, the office chairs should be well adjusted to the height of the desk. Ergonomic office chairs will make a huge difference especially for people with back problems. These chairs come in a range of bright and beautiful colors in fabric and also in leather. They have wheels; so they can easily move on any kind of floor. The armrests are also padded to provide support to your elbow and forearm if your work involves a lot of typing.

Adding Life to presentations

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

The topic really means it, adding life to presentations and making them more informative and makes the sessions more active. We might have prepared a presentation in colleges and also after starting to work. There might be major difference in both, other than the subject the templates used and also the software. The tools used for presentation have their own merits and demerit. The most popular presentations tools PowerPoint and flash. PowerPoint was considered as one of the best presentation tool and was used by everyone irrespective of the place where we used them. PowerPoint presentations are still popular among certain groups because of the ease with which we can create presentations. We don’t need prior knowledge to use them instead directly we cans tart working on them. Animations can even be created in simple PowerPoint slides. Flash presentations are more advanced when compared to PowerPoint presentations and also requires technical skills to create them. In PowerPoint we can just use the templates directly but this may not be possible to greater extent in flash presentations. Flash presentations are more lively and do not require user interference to present it to the audience. Flash presentations are more like movies and can be paused and played if required.

New ‘Animal Crossing’ finds fun in the day-to-day

Friday, December 19th, 2008

Nintendo’s latest installment in its “Animal Crossing” series boasts a charm similar to that of the television sitcom “Seinfeld.”

Much like the quintessential “show about nothing” draws its humor from mundane tasks, situations and dialogue, “Animal Crossing: City Folk” ($49.99, Wii) revels in the simple day-to-day activities and decisions of life.

Spend the afternoon fishing, digging for fossils or visiting friends. Buy and sell items at the local shop, or head into the city to browse a more upscale selection of stores.

There are no levels to finish, checkpoints to reach or objectives to complete — do what you want, when you want. It’s an approach that’s surprisingly addictive.

This latest installment is the popular series’ first venture onto the Wii console, and it’s clearly geared to those who might have missed out on “Animal Crossing” for the GameCube or “Animal Crossing: Wild World” for the Nintendo DS.

Sure, “Animal Crossing: City Folk” adds the ability to visit friends’ towns over the Internet or ride the bus into the city, but its formula strays little from the original premise and players of the previous titles might be left wanting more.

The first order of business upon arriving in your new home town is to meet up with local entrepreneur Tom Nook.

Nook, a raccoon, will set you up with your first house and help you start paying your mortgage by putting you to work in his shop, Nook’s Cranny.

The repeated errands he assigns grow tedious, but once he runs out of odd jobs he’ll cut you loose so you can explore the town on your own timetable, which is the lure of this game.

You’ll encounter plenty of animal residents and each has their own look and personality. Dialogue exchanges can be fun, and you’re free to befriend or ignore anyone.

Those in need of a sense of purpose can drop by the museum, which is rich with exhibit space yet void of a single tangible display item.

You can help its embarrassed curator, Blathers the owl, by donating some of the numerous fish, bugs and fossils you collect during your journeys. Blathers is always happy to accept donations, and you can always visit your pet squid in the aquarium section or catch another to set up a tank in your house.

And if you need some extra bells — the game’s form of currency — drop by Tom Nook’s to sell your fruit, fish, shells and other gathered items.

I typically enjoy playing video games in large time chunks rather than a little each day, but the slow-and-steady approach works best with “Animal Crossing: City Folk.”

The game runs on a real-time clock, so weather, available items and species all adjust to the date and seasons.

A trip to Nook’s Cranny shortly after Thanksgiving offered a Christmas tree, which I bought and put in my house’s tiny living room. My walk through town the other day was greeted by light snowfall, and flakes dropped on trees decked out with lights.

Most of the fish I’ve been catching are on the small side, but I can look forward to reeling in some larger species once the weather begins to warm up. Or, if I know another player’s Friend Code, I can that town and cast into their lakes and beaches to expand my collection.

“Animal Crossing: City Folk” also offers occasional fishing tournaments and special holiday events that appear on the calendar.

It’s easy to get cooped up during a cold winter, so a trip to the city might be just the thing to get you out of the doldrums.

Items and services in the city are ridiculously expensive (how’s that for realism?), so you’ll burn through bells much quicker than you would in town. But where else can you hire an interior designer or buy a 300,000-bell luxury bed?

Those looking to change their appearance can visit Shampoodle and have Harriet give you a haircut or a Mii makeover, so you can use your customized character.

You can also take in a movie (800 bells) or drop by the auction house to get rid of or bid on items.

The game is the first to work with Nintendo’s Wii Speak accessory, a set-top room microphone which can be bought separately for $29.99 or bundled with the game for $69.99. If your friend across the country has the same setup, you can chat with each other while fishing.

“Animal Crossing: City Folk” might seem too familiar to players of the previous series titles, but this latest installment offers plenty of depth for newcomers.

It takes time and patience to reveal its depth, but that’s the fun.

Three out of four stars.

Hirsute women ‘more likely to have G spots’

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Italian scientists, who proved that the semi-mythical G-spot does exist, are investigating whether hirsute women are more likely to have the erogenous zone.

According to the researchers, since hirsute women have higher levels of testosterone, both the clitoris and the G spot are thought to respond to the hormone.

Earlier this year, Emmanuele Jannini at the University of L’Aquila in Italy along with colleagues captured the G-spot on ultrasound for the first time.

According to New Scientist, the researchers discovered clear anatomical differences between women who claim to have vaginal orgasms - as opposed to clitoral - and those that don’t.

Women capable of orgasm during penetrative sex have a thicker tissue area in the region between the vagina and the urethra - meaning it’s now easy to medically tell the difference between the lucky “cans” and the “can-nots”.

Interestingly, the boffins also believe that women with the thicker tissue can be ‘taught’ to have vaginal orgasms, if they can’t already.

Ultrasound scans on 30 women uncovered G spots in just eight of them and when these women were asked if they had vaginal orgasms during sex, only five of them said yes. However, when the remaining three were shown their G spots on the scan and given advice on how to stimulate it, two of them subsequently “discovered” the joy of vaginal orgasms.

“This demonstrated, although in a small sample, the use of [vaginal ultrasound] in teaching the vaginal orgasm,” Jannini says.

Sadly, none of the have-nots had vaginal orgasms either before or after the scans, so they’ll just have to make do with the old-fashioned clitoral kind.

The results were presented at the Italian Society of Andrology and Sexual Medicine in Rome in November.

RSPCA mends ties with Hindu temple

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

A British animal welfare charity said Saturday that it would donate a cow to a Hindu temple north of London, in a bid to repair relations that were damaged last year when a sacred cow was put down.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) said it was apologising for the offence caused when the 13-year-old Belgian Blue-Jersey cross, Gangotri, was killed last December because it was in pain, but added that it was not apologising for putting the animal down.

Hundreds of Hindus protested outside the RSPCA’s offices last year, accusing the charity of secretly and unnecessarily killing the animal.

On Saturday, the Bhaktivedanta Manor in Hertfordshire, a Hindu temple where the cow was housed and which was set up by former Beatle George Harrison, said the RSPCA would donate a Meuse-Rhine Issel cow.

“It’s a gesture of reconciliation,” RSPCA spokesman Henry Macaulay told AFP.

“We’re not apologising for what we did, because we feel we can’t do that, but we are apologising for the hurt caused.”

When the RSPCA put Gangotri down last year, it said that three vets had advised it to do so, but the temple strongly objected to the move, saying that its own vets had not recommended that the cow be killed.

The RSPCA monitors alleged animal cruelty offences in Britain and often brings private prosecutions against offenders.
