I have type two and regulate with diet and exercise. I havent taken insulin for 2-3 years but I feel fine with diet and exercise.

Should I still be taking insulin even if my sugar leves read between 78 - 90? Please provide a link if you have one.

Those numbers are perfect…sounds like you’re doing great. No need to go back on the insulin unless your BG’s start getting up into the mid-100’s. You’re checking your post-meal BG’s too, right? Those should be less than 140 most of the time.

Please does anyone know if a 0845 phone number is free or is it a premium number?

It is a local rate number, you will often be charged even if you have a package including free local calls though.

———

The cost of calling an 0845 number is usually higher than calling a geographic 01 or 02 number. 0845 is not included in call plans offering “free national calls”.

Prices include VAT. For BT, it’s currently 2ppm in the day and 0.5ppm in the evening. There’s a table of costs for each network (and mobiles) in the link below.

How Do I Clean My Microfiber Couch?

I have a steam cleaner with attatchments but am weary about doing it that way.

Any other suggestions on how to clean it.

Oh, and it’s mostly doggie drool, LOL Trying to keep them off but it’s hard to 24/7.

Since microfiber technology can remove the need for chemicals, cleaning costs then are drastically decreased. Microfiber is a totally non-abrasive, lint free, high-tech cleaning cloth. A microfiber sofa has taken the auto detailing world by storm, changing the way that people care for their living-rooms and sofas.

Microfiber sofas need special products to be dusted, Why?

Because special cleanliness products like Micro-Restore are better than a common household goods, that’s because most cleaning products have some form of bleach and fabric softener included in their formulas.

Over time bleach breaks down the micro-fibers, and fabric softeners clog the microscopic pours that make microfiber so effective, rendering the microfiber product less effective with each washing.

Most cleaning microfiber sofa products are optimized blend of chelating agents and builders in an aqueous system. It provides excellent cleaning for microfiber furniture and performance to effectively dust.

Microfiber is a revolutionary, man made fiber, 100 times finer than a human hair, that can be processed, woven and finished in a variety of different ways to achieve a desired end result, this special material allow us to design our own microfiber sofa.

Why are they becoming so popular everywhere?

Microfiber sofas are becoming popular because they offer easy maintenance. Increasingly, homes are incorporating microfiber sofas into their decoration schemes. Microfiber is the tiniest man made fiber possible with today’s technology. It is one hundred times finer than a human hair. It is very popular because fabrics produced from microfiber are soft, lightweight, and easy to care for.

Additionally, the fibers leave no lint or dust, so they are highly recommended for allergy sufferers. These fibers are used to create clothing, cleaning cloths, polishing cloths, and all types of furniture including headboards, chairs, and sofas. Cleaning a microfiber sofa should not be a difficult process.

Microfiber, by its very nature, is stain resistant. As a result, stain products like Scotch Guard or other fabric protection materials are usually unnecessary with this type of sofa. Some furniture retail outlets offer protection plans that will help with stain resistance, so if that is one of your big concerns, contact your retailer to see if a protection plan is right for you.

How to Clean Microfiber Furniture
For general microfiber furniture cleaning, though, a drop or two of mild detergent, like dish soap or laundry detergent, combined with a bit of water should clean your microfiber sofa in no time.

Odors like urine can be easily eliminated by blotting the stain with white vinegar and distilled water, applying baking soda, then vacuuming. For the most part, cleaning will be an easy process if it is true microfiber. Imposter materials, though, may be more difficult to clean.

The majority of microfiber sofas use polyester as the base fabric because it has the ability to absorb color better than other materials. As a result of this chemical process, the color is forced to stay in the fiber, and no other treatments will ever be necessary.

What kind of Cayenne pepper plant is used for making pepper spray?

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

<!– /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:”"; margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:”Times New Roman”; mso-fareast-font-family:”Times New Roman”;} a:link, span.MsoHyperlink {color:blue; text-decoration:underline; text-underline:single;} a:visited, span.MsoHyperlinkFollowed {color:purple; text-decoration:underline; text-underline:single;} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} –>

Pepper spray, in everyday terms, is an irritating substance extracted from the cayenne pepper plant, which is mixed with natural oil. This mixture is placed into a container and pressurized to create a spray or an aerosol. The cayenne pepper plant is better known as a very hot spice used for cooking and is also used in prescription drugs. Pepper spray is also known as oleoresin capsicum (O.C. spray).

Artificial sweeteners?

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

have used aspartame based sweeteners for many years, but have just learned how bad they are, so have switched to Splenda. Can anyone please tell me if Splenda has any adverse side effects?

Based on some of the most recent clinical evidence, artificial sweetners (Splenda, Equal, Nutra Sweet) don’t generally cause health issues unless taken in massive doses. These doses would have to be equal to or greater than an average of 32 cans of soda a day. Additionally, these same artificial sweetners, if taken in doses equal to or greater than 27 cans of soda a day can cause scarring in the arteries which would allow blockage to occur.

I hope that gives you some idea and I apologize if that sounds like a medical report but that’s what I do for a living.

Clinical Researcher for a large, university based medical center

………..

SPLENDA® Is It Safe or Not?
After twenty years of NutraSweet® (aspartame) dominating the sweetener market, people are realizing for themselves that aspartame really is a foul food chemical tragically harmful to their health. Now, people think Johnson & Johnson’s Splenda, made from sucralose, has come to the rescue as the newest chemical sugar replacement “made from real sugar.” People don’t want to hear that it may be just as dangerous as aspartame, and this white knight of sweeteners is no better improvement.

New chemical sweeteners (like Splenda) and the sweetener blends (aspartame, sucralose and acesulfame K blended together in one product) may be causing users to show signs of weight gain, disruption of sleep patterns, sexual dysfunction, increases in cancer, MS, Lupus, diabetes, and a list of epidemic degenerative diseases. The corporations continue to stand tough in their denial of any connection to chemical sweetener additives.

………………
The best place to find out if there have been any adverse side effects is FDA.gov
They have to list any reported incidences.
I have had some clients say they have noticed splenda gives them headaches.
It IS made from sugar—but it has undergone a chemical process to become what it is. There fore some people may be more sensitive to it.
I use natural sweetners whenever possible! Have you ever tried xylitol? Used in many gums, candies, etc it is actually proven to prevent tooth decay! It is all natural too!
Another alternative is stevia…this is a supplement that is many times sweeter than sugar. I like to use it as both by adding it to my teas–double bang for my buck ya know??
…………
My advice to you would be to cut out all sweetners all together.

A teaspoon of regular sugar comes to a measly 16 calories - providing you don’t have 4 sugars and 10 cups of tea a day, that’s hardly going to break the waistline.

All sweetners are chemicals and to me anyway, putting un-neccessary chemicals in to me is a total no-no.

The only side effect I’ve heard of is the ol’ laxative effect if you take too many…..

Boarding School

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

Boarding schools have been around long enough yet they are more common in the west than in eastern countries. These schools are primarily set up to give, not only good education for their students, but also food and lodging. Most students who attend such educational institutions have to stay longer at school than at home. Most spend majority of their childhood and adolescent lives in these schools. When parents agree in such a setup, they are actually training their children, the earliest time possible, to be independent in all aspects. Most wealthy families send their children to such schools.

Teenagers (whether the behaved ones or the troublemakers) could definitely benefit from such a setup. For those who do not have any behavioral issues, a teen boarding school would suffice where they would be educated in preparation for their college lives.

Boot camps for teens, on the other hand, are there mainly to make right what could be a wrong adolescent period for most juvenile delinquents. This, of course, depends on how the parents view this type of setup. Boot camps teach discipline and respect for others which some teens could pick up and where others might not. Parents should be very careful in sending their children to such schools. They should first consult with a competent psychologist before actually enrolling their teens.

Free E-Filing of Federal Income Taxes

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

The burdens and costs of regular tax matters have been reduced considerably through the free filing system currently in place in the United States, especially after the signing of the Free File Tax Agreement between the Internal Revenue Service and Free tax File Alliance, LLC. The Free File Program, has since then been made available to the general public, as a more convenient means of handling federal income tax concerns.

This online service is free to eligible taxpayers – those with a 2007 Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $54,000 or less. Should this amount be exceeded, there is usually a fee charged by the companies providing tax services in line with the Free File Program. There are, however, those who still offer such services for free. There are affiliate member-companies of the Free File Alliance LLC who offer a free federal tax filing based on your state of residence.

These online services are also supported by assistance from qualified professionals ready to answer questions, and there are a number of assistance centers to help those who are having difficulties in dealing with their tax returns. There is also a large number of available pamphlets, publications and materials all geared towards reducing the usual dilemmas associated with tax preparation procedures and filing. With this tool, moreover, the taxpayer is made aware of incentives such as tax credits or refunds which he might be entitled to.

Are the Angels the most underrated team in the MLB?

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

They have the best record in the AL and they are not mentioned as much as the Cubs, Red Sox, Yankees, D-Backs, Tiger, ect.. Are they the most underrated team in baseball?

yes. they are beating teams and they are not getting as much attention as other teams. They also have the best road record in the league and a lot of people don’t know that. but that will all change when they win the world series!

—–

I’d have to agree they are the most underated team in baseball. I didn’t even realize they were in ferst because i like the Rays and i pay attention to the AL East.

—-

they don’t really get mentioned by ESPN, sportscenter, baseball tonight etc. Angels have always been the quiet predator anyways
being an angel fan for about 5 yrs or so.. my theory is this: people do know that angels are good. but that’s about all they know XP so i guess you can say that is a legitimate argument :)

How do I trim mature lilac bushes without killing them?

Saturday, June 14th, 2008
I have two 20-25 ft bushes that have probably never been trimmed. I’m guessing that they’re 30-40 years old An abundance of flowers (almost finished) is way at the top. (I can really only see them from a second floor window!) The lower third of the bushes is almost leafless. Last winter I cut off some of the old branches close to the ground and, yes, new shoots have come up. I’d like to remove some more of the old branches now. Is this a good idea and if so, how far down should I cut them?
Now is a good time to prune your lilacs. Lilacs bloom on last years growth so pruning now will allow for growth this year so you have flowers next year.Prune no more than 1/3 of the bush in any one year. Pruning will stimulate the bush to make more shoots also. You don’t have to cut them all the way to the ground, you can cut the top of the branches and they will get fuller. When I’m cutting the flowers to bring in the house, I take a few minutes and snip the tips out of the branches in the same area.

Lilacs like slightly “sweet” soil so a good sprinkle of lime and a gentle dose of fertilizer will certainly help the cause!

…………..
I just take out the largest stems right after each bloom so I am not sure what to do about very old, established plants. Here are some links that I found that are helpful and give good advice, albeit differing advice:
